Marshall County Leadership Students Create Custom Signs for Central Elementary
BENTON, KENTUCKY - This semester, Central Elementary School received two custom CES signs created by students from the Marshall County Leadership Class, Kadence Cavitt and Briley Cathey. The project was completed through the Makerspace at the Marshall County Public Library as part of the Community Outreach Program.
Using software provided by the library, the students recreated the CES logo in vector format. They then utilized the library’s CO₂ laser to cut acrylic signs shaped like the logo. To finish the project, Cavitt and Cathey used a vinyl cutter to layer multiple colors of vinyl onto the acrylic, producing a vibrant, professional final product.
The completed signs were delivered to Central Elementary principal Jill Darnall on Thursday.
Nick Adams, Technology and Facilities Coordinator at The Marshall County Public Library, said it’s rewarding to see students learn new skills and be able to put them to use in the makerspace.
“The Marshall County GT Program is so appreciative of the library for providing opportunities for our leadership students to give back to the schools and community,” said Dr. Toddie Adams, Director of Gifted Services. “While they are mentored through the Community Outreach Program, leadership students must use critical and creative thinking and problem-solving skills to create products using equipment in the makerspace. The feedback from students is always overwhelmingly positive.”
