This book is the first in a series by Brian Jacques.  (Author of Redwall). It follows the journey of a young boy named Ben and his dog, Ned.  The Flying Dutchman and its crew were cursed to sail the seas forever in a state of living death.  Ben and Ned were the only two innocents on board; and they were spared the curse-mostly.  Ben and Ned will never get older and were given the ability to talk to each other.  And Ben (who was dumb) was given the ability to speak.  Sound fun?  Well as fun as not getting old sounds they also have to leave behind all the friends they make.  They are sent to help people throughout the ages by an Angel, while always being hunted by the captain and crew of The Flying Dutchman!
