Modern Tale
of Faerie
by Holly Black
Review by Miss Tammy
In this trio of books by Holly Black, faeries are
real and waging war in our modern world, unseen to most human eyes.
These books deal with the humans that can see the faeries and find
themselves mixed up in their crazy world. Of course, the human world
is pretty crazy for these teens: Kaye has to deal with a rock
star-wannabe mom, Corny is hated by pretty much everyone (and not just
because he's gay), Val catches her mom and boyfriend making out (gross),
and Lolli lives the not-so-glamorous life of a street person. Through
their encounters with the dark world of Faerie some of them find hope and
love with others find despair and death.
The first two books in the series, Valiant and
Tithe, do not need to be read in any certain order, but both should be
read before the concluding book, Ironside.
